Good News on COBRA & Simonton Court
So I just learned that Mac can be covered with our health insurance plan for 3 years for the monthly premium for individual coverage ($370 at present.) Not that you will need it when you get a fine paying job with wonderful benefits, but, just in case . . .
And Keith Ellis just called from a beach on Key West, to let us know they were laying in the sun, watching the waves, and they love Simonton Court! Really, how good a time can they be having if he's calling us from a beach?

Mmmmmm beach. I want one.
If this scenario comes to pass, Mary Alyce may want to investigate high-deductible health insurance and health savings accounts. When I've looked into such plans during fits of job ennui, there have been good options at $100/month with a $4,000 deductible. Since you can pay the deductible with pretax HSA dollars, it's close to a wash even in the worst annual case.
It's great that the COBRA is there if you need it, though.
She said the jobs she has sent her resume to have offered benefits . . .
Always good to have options though, right?
Judi, before you start those COBRA payments, you might want to double-check exactly when your current coverage for Mac will run out. When Caleb graduated, I thought his coverage would lapse the minute they put the diploma into his hand, but no -- as it turned out, his coverage continued until his 23rd birthday, quite a few months later. I'm not sure whether that is a function of New York insurance regulation or whether it was just the way our policy's student rider is designed -- but if it is true for yours, too, it might buy you and Mac a little bit of time.
